I am a member of the The Embroiderers' Guild of America. My local chapter is called Muchas Manos de San Diego. We are in the Pacific Southwestern Region. I also know a number of the folks in the nearby chapter in Escondido, the Threaded Needle Chapter. One of the types of embroidery that interests me is Schwalm (or German white on white embroidery). I've put together some pages of resources since I couldn't find any online already. Here are some of my favorite links: Inspirations -- The most beautiful needlework magazine I have seen. It has gorgeous pictures, detailed instructions, and projects to drool over. You can order direct from them in Australia (shipping is reasonable) or through their U.S. distributor, The Wooly Thread, in Washington state. Stitching Pretty -- A great online store based in Laurel, Maryland that does phone orders too. They carry just about everything for cross stitch, hardanger, and other counted thread work. Plus, they carry the designs from their local designers (including the owner, the manager, and frequent visitors). |
